Jill was very organized, timely, energetic and did a great job explaining and implementing the process. She brought a wealth of information to our conversation, had a great presentation that we continue to reference, and did a great job facilitating our group discussion. It was fun and informative and very productive.

ArtStart is a nonprofit arts and cultural organization based in the city of Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Jill from Lipski Cain Consulting connected with Melinda Childs from ArtStart Rhinelander through networking. After hearing about ArtStart’s challenges with organizing the previous years’ Project North, a two day music festival, Jill pitched a complimentary event design training to support the ArtStart team through the realization of the 2024 festival. This was made possible through pro-bono hours that Lipski Cain Consulting budgets each year.

What We Did

Identifying a Need

ArtStart expressed that one of their biggest challenges with Project North has been balancing community feedback with the logistical needs of event organizers.

Two Active Discussions

Pre-Festival:

Jill shared strategies for factoring both attendee and vendor needs into event design, planning, and communication.

Jill also reviewed the post-event attendee survey, ensuring that the questions being asked were as effective as possible in gathering usable data.

Post-Festival:

Jill was fortunate to attend Project North 2024 and witness the effects of her training firsthand. Following the completion of the attendee survey, Jill conducted a meaning making and interpretation debrief for the ArtStart team to aid their understanding of the collected data and reflect on the challenges, successes, and path forwards for Project North.

Positive Impact and a Clear Path Forwards

ArtStart found Jill’s insight refreshing and were excited to apply her information to their event design. Solutions and ideas from the pre-festival discussion were easily integrated into the realization of Project North 2024.

After working with Lipski Cain Consulting, ArtStart Rhinelander gained:

A deeper understanding of attendee and vendor perspectives.

Improved communication between organizers, vendors, performers, and attendees.

Increased clarity on a more sustainable direction for future Project North festivals.

Our team has a whole new perspective as we make decisions about our event. Being able to put ourselves in the shoes of multiple stakeholders and think through their experience was very eye opening for us.
